Frequently asked questions about our services

Why work with you?

I’m in recovery myself and have firsthand experience addressing cannabis use. I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help you build on what’s working and create change that fits your life.

Can I still join if I still use weed?

Yes. This group is based on a harm reduction approach, which means you decide what change looks like for you—whether that’s cutting back, taking breaks, or stopping completely. The focus is on supporting your goals at your own pace, without pressure or judgment.

How many sessions will I need?

This group is designed to be brief and effective — five sessions total. That’s enough time to explore your goals, notice what’s better, and plan your next steps.

Do you offer in person or virtual sessions?

Currently, sessions are in person only, offered on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mid-mornings. My office is located near the Lloyd District in Portland.

How does payment work?

Each session costs $75, and the full $375 for all five sessions is due up front. There are no hidden fees or surprises.

What happens during a 15 minute free consult?

We’ll talk about what brought you here and what you want to see happen. I’ll ask a few questions to understand your goals and how this group might fit. It’s a quick, pressure-free chance for you to decide if this feels like the right next step.

I’m Topher Welsch, an Oregon therapist who helps Department of Transportation–regulated workers complete their Return to Duty requirements. I’m also in long-term recovery myself — so I understand how setbacks happen, and how people move forward.

I specialize in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: a fast, practical approach that focuses on what’s working and what comes next — not the past.

My job is simple: help you complete your SAP counseling requirements quickly and effectively, so you can get back to work without delays.
